Bailiffs are the law enforcement arm of the Court and provide general security for the courthouse and its staff. They keep order in the Court, serve legal process or other Court documents, and take charge of juries when the Court is not in session. Bailiffs may administer oaths and receive verdicts. They coordinate the movement of cases and participants between the Court and Clerk's Office. In the Willoughby Municipal Court the bailiffs also install and remove clubs on vehicles that are ordered immobilized by the Court. The bailiffs supervise move outs on cases of forcible entry and detainer. The duties are similar to those that are performed by the sheriff for the Court of Common Pleas. The bailiff takes charge of defendants that are remanded to custody and process them into the Court's holding facility.
